Response Letter to Signatories of "COP 21: Let’s also talk about education"

Dear Signatories of the preliminary text towards educational transition for COP 21,

There are now nearly 500 of you, from more than 30 countires and from all the continents, that have responded to our call for a « thematic day » to be devoted to ESD and all that is at stake for COP21 in Paris in December 2015.
And your adhesion hasn’t been without effect! Thanks to your support, the decision has been taken: a thematic day with ESD for its theme – « How to operate a change in education systems » will be organized by the  French Minister of Education on December 4th at Le Bourget within the frame of COP 21. We will communicate the final program as soon as we receive the information, no doubt subsequent to our meeting with the Minister in October.
The event on December 4th represents  the first of its like in COP history. We will of course do everything in our power to make it sustainable and ensure that education becomes part of the necessary topics at all future climate conferences. We have drafted a manifesto entitled « Let’s change education so 10 billion people can live together », sub-titled « Manifesto for education towards planetary citizenship » which will be distributed in electronic book form towards the end of October and in book form at COP 21. It will be officially presented to the Ministers of Education of the previous COPs and notably to the Maroccan Minister as Marocco, is to be the next hosting country for COP 22 in December 2016.
Furthermore, we are presently awaiting confirmation for another important event concerning education within the scope of COP 21. Together with the CFEED (Collectif français d’éducation à l’environnement et au développement durable) the CNAJEP (Comité pour les relation internationales des Association de Jeunesse et d’Education Populaire),  - the CNTE (Conseil national de la transition écologique), Altermondes, Solidarité Laïque and the CAPE, the Collectif Paris-éducation 2015 has  requested participation in « Espaces Générations Climat » which will be held at the same place as COP 21. The manifesto that we are finalizing will be presented in an a conference/debate/round table on the theme : « Education, the essential lever for transition ». We will be defending the principle that there will be neither sustainable development nor transition without lifelong action on an educational level for everybody together with Young people’s participation. It goes without saying that this conference, which should take place before the Thematic Day, will be a forerunner to this main event.
Apart from presentation of the manifesto, the round table will bring acknowledgement for the initiatives of numerous ESD stakeholders in France and in the world, showing that solutions are on hand and demonstrating the necessity of generalized ESD for all, everywhere and throughout life.

Dear Signatories,

You can see that your commitment has not been in vain. It has brought support and conviction in dialogues to convince our partners, particularly the Minister of Education, of the urgent need to acknowledge and assert the important role of education systems in the transition towards sustainable societies and thus decide to build the necessary mecanisms to accelerate such transition. We heartily thank you.
You will be informed, as promised and before the end of October, of the evolution of the manifesto and attendant organization, in both content and form. Until then, don’t hesitate to have your contacts sign our preliminary text. You can diffuse it via our website (http://paris-education2015.org/) where all signataries are mentioned as well as our November 2014 tribune, useful links and, very soon, the manifesto.
